Remembering the 1972-73 Tigers

larrykenon 600The 1972-73 Memphis State University Tigers team was honored at halftime of the nationally televised game between the University of Memphis and Gonzaga at the FedExForum on Saturday (Feb. 8th) night.

Coached by the late Gene Bartow, the team featured several standout players, including the late Larry Finch, who later became a legendary Tigers coach.

I had the privilege of seeing the Tigers beat Providence and then play UCLA. I sat right under the basket. Finch, Robinson, Kenon, McKinney, Buffalo, Laurie, Cook, Buford, Westfall, Jones. What a show! And Gene Bartow, what a class act. For a Tiger fan, it was a game for the ages.
