The new school year is set to begin and the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness will began opening immunization stations along with vision and hearing screenings on July 29 at three points of dispensing (PODs).
The back to school vaccination PODs will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 29 at the Adamsville Regional Health Center, College Park Regional Health Center and North Fulton Regional Health Center.
"On July 29, our Nursing Division will focus on giving vaccinations, eye-ear-dental screenings and the required certifications for children to attend school," said Patrice A. Harris, MD, Director of Fulton County Health Services.
Parents or legal guardians should be aware that children are required to have certain vaccinations in order to attend public school.
Children who do not have proper vaccinations could be sent home until they are in compliance.
Children entering kindergarten or the sixth grade may need a second dose of Varicella which is for Chicken Pox. Other vaccines may include measles, mumps and a booster dose of DTap and IPV.
It is recommended that children 11 to 12-years old also receive TDap meningitis and HPV.
Parents or guardians should bring the child's immunization records when visiting a POD.
Children entering kindergarten and who are new to Georgia will need an immunization certificate, Georgia Form 3231 and a Dental, Vision and Hearing Form 3300.
All parents are encouraged by the department to take advantage of the Rush PODs to be ready for school.
Vaccinations are available at all Fulton County Health Centers on an ongoing basis for any families who are unable to attend this special back-to-school event.
Accepted forms of payment include Visa, MasterCard, cash, Medicaid, United HealthCare and CINGNA.
The school year for Fulton County Public Schools begin on Aug. 12 and Atlanta Public Schools on Aug. 7.
