Radio One, the seventh largest radio broadcasting company in the U.S., will conclude its 25th anniversary celebration with a star-studded awards gala to be held Thursday, Aug. 17 in Washington, D.C. Over 100 awards will be presented in three different categories, recognizing outstanding contributions in the public and private sector. Famed artist Annie Lee designed the trophy.

Set to host the black-tie gala will be Ananda Lewis, J. Anthony Brown, Tom Joyner, and Russ Parr.

Among those scheduled to provide entertainment will be Aretha Franklin, Ciara, and gospel musician/TV One show host Jeff Majors. Scheduled to make appearances are: hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, former B2K member Marquis Houston, comedian Eddie Griffin, and gospel great Kirk Franklin.

The Radio One 25th Anniversary Awards Gala is the finale of a year-long celebration for the corporation. Radio One has 71 radio stations in 22 urban markets, including Los Angeles, Boston, Dallas, Atlanta, Detroit, and Washington, D.C.

In January of this year, Radio One launched its new talk network, Syndication One. With on-air personalities such as Michael Eric Dyson, the Rev. Al Sharpton, and the 2 Live Stews (Doug & Ryan Stewart), Syndication One features fresh voices, perspectives and talk. Radio One also recently debuted in the film industry with the movie Preaching to the Choir, a collaborative effort with TV One and CodeBlack Entertainment.

In 1987 when Radio One added Magic 102.3 to its D.C. line-up, it created the nation’s first urban adult music format. In 1999, Radio One became a publicly traded corporation expanding its presence and formats nationally to include Mainstream Urban, Urban Adult Contemporary, Gospel and News Talk. Collectively, it has almost 14 million listeners weekly.
