Hackett, 57, was instrumental in the museum’s conception in 1990 by awarding a 25-year, $1-a-year lease of the old National Guard Armory at Central Avenue and Hollywood to the Museum’s founders.

As the CMOM CEO, Hackett will oversee the day-to-day operations, managing five departments and a staff of 42. He will also act as the museum’s chief fund raiser.

“There’s never been a more critical time for the children in our community,” says Hackett. “The museum provides a safe, educational experience for children. It’s a true honor and privilege to work with the professional staff and dedicated board of the Children’s Museum and continue to be able to contribute to the quality of life in Memphis.”

Hackett was mayor from 1982 to 1992. He was also the founder of WONDERS: The Memphis International Cultural Series.
