Bowe Bergdahl: Guilt by association with Obama

boweandobama 600The Republican furor over the release of American POW Bowe Bergdahl just doesn’t make any sense – that is, unless you think of Sgt. Bergdahl as a stand-in for President Obama.
The Army soldier has not even set foot on U.S. soil after being held captive by the Taliban for nearly five years in Afghanistan.  And yet, Bergdahl, 28, has been tried and convicted in the media, accused of being a deserter, a terrorist sympathizer, and anything and everything but a child of God. Obama struck a deal securing the soldier’s release in exchange for America’s release of five Taliban prisoners.  The President ignored the law requiring him to inform Congress of the transfer of the Taliban prisoners 30 days in advance, and he is not apologizing.

Students: Postsecondary education of the future should focus on employability and career growth

BALTIMORE (PRNewswire) – Students believe postsecondary education must focus in the future on graduates’ employability and career growth, according to what is described as the largest global survey of studentsurvey 600university students’ attitudes ever conducted.
Laureate Education, Inc., commissioned Zogby Analytics, an international opinion research firm, to survey students at 37 Laureate network institutions in 21 countries. More than 20,800 students responded to the survey, the basis for declaring it the largest international survey ever of student attitudes.
“Gone are the days of an individual staying with the same company for his or her entire career; the future belongs to innovators and those who can succeed in an ever-evolving marketplace,” said Douglas L. Becker, chairman and chief executive officer of Laureate Education, Inc.

The color of change: The Army’s 1st black, female 2-star eneral on diversifying the Army

Color0fChange 600Maj. Gen. Marcia Anderson knows a thing or two about leadership and diversity in the Army, and so she should, as the most senior-ranking black woman in the military, a badge she has worn since 2011, when she became the first black, female two-star general.
Being in the position that she is in, and knowing what she knows, Anderson is determined to see the military become more reflective of American society – rich, diverse and inclusive in a healthy way – starting with bumping up the representation of women, who account for only about 15 percent of the whole Army.

Tony Awards 2014 belong to Audra McDonald

Sunday night’s 68th Annual Tony Awards was all Audra McDonald and James Monroe Iglehart, as one became the most decorated Broadway actress of all time with her win and the other saw his decision to Audra 600surpass being a pro wrestler and a Harlem Globetrotter pay off with his first Tony win.
McDonald wowed Broadway audiences with her portrayal of Billie Holiday’s struggle with drug and alcohol addiction in “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.” McDonald had to not only imitate the singer’s alcohol fueled performances but also had to emulate her signature husky voice.
“I get to the theater at about 6 p.m. or 6:15 p.m. I need that time. I don’t let anybody come in from a half-hour on. I go really deep within myself,” she told the Wall Street Journal about her process to prepare.

Blacks harnessing the power of capitalism

Among Donald Sterling’s rants he said something more blacks need to recognize as truth. Sterling’s comments that: “When Jews get successful they will help their people. And some of the African-Americans … they Reed 600don’t want to help anybody” were neither unfair nor racist.
Start with his point: the majority of blacks don’t help other blacks. It is a reality that most honest blacks will admit is true. And it’s something that our community has grappled with for years. If you just focus on the messenger instead of the message you will miss the truth that in our culture blacks have a history of not supporting one another.
Look at blacks’ economics versus those of Jews. Of all groups’ “collective capitalism” practices Jews are among the best, while blacks are the worst. Research data shows: a dollar circulates up to 12 times within Jewish circles, but is in and out of the black community within 12 hours.
