Garfield shooters sought

The shooting death of a 20-year-old in Garfield, last Sunday, is the latest death in Allegheny County, bringing the total thus far for the year to 85 homicides, more than last year’s total of 73 and 15 away from 2010’s total of 100.

Rudolph Freeman, 20 of McKees Rocks, was killed in the evening of Oct. 21 while visiting friends at a home on Mossfield Street in Garfield. After leaving to meet someone, neighbors heard shots and Freeman was found on the back patio of the home. Freeman was pronounced dead on the scene with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and torso.

According to a source, Freeman had a history of criminal activity.

In a release sent out earlier in the week by Commander Thomas Stangrecki, police are reviewing surveillance cameras that may reveal some information about the homicide. As of deadline for this publication, Stangrecki said there was no new information to report.

Freeman’s death comes only a week after a Garfield teen was killed during a neighborhood dispute. Ne’Ondre Harbour, 16, was shot in the torso while standing outside a home on North Aiken Avenue. He fled and later collapsed at Kincaid Street and North Atlantic Avenue in Garfield. Harbour was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where he later died. Police said he was not involved in the dispute.

Authorities have arrested and charged 21-year-old Brandon Sewell with Harbour’s death. This is the third homicide to occur in Garfield within the last two months.
