Atlanta Deltas Hold Annual Women Luncheon

More than 500 women including Sorors, honorees and friends recenlty packed the Thomas Murphy Ballroom of the Georgia World Congress Center for the Annual Delta Sigma Theta Atlanta Alumnae Chapter Torch Awards and Celebration of Women.   Themed "Builders of Communities" the awards luncheon recognized 13 of the most powerful women of the decade and two trailblazers. Rev. Bernice Kirkland, pastor of Hoosier United Methodist Church, was keynote speaker and Lynn Vaughn, formerly of CNN served as mistress of ceremonies.  Honorees (seated from left): Mary Lowe, retired educator, entrepreneur, developer; Marguerite Creecy, Trailblazer honoree,  civil rights activist and matriarch; Charmaine Ward, director of community affairs, Georgia Pacific; Rev. Bernice Kirkland, pastor of Hoosier United Methodist Church, and Marie Baker Wilson, life motivator.  Standing from left: Vicky Free, executive vice president of marketing, BET; Mary Parker, president, Alln1 Security Services; Debbie Alexander, assistant deputy commissioner, Ga. Department. of Juvenile Justice; Ernesta Ingram, executive director, Southwest Ecumenical Emergency Assistance Center; Camille Smith Zeigler, president, Delta Sigma Theta Atlanta Alumnae Chapter; Nadine Baker Smith, retired educator and past president, DST Atlanta Alumnae Chapter; Dr. Michelle Staples Horne, medical director, Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice; Deanna Hamilton, president Circle of One Inc.; Sheila Pree Bright, renowned photographer; and Dr. Monica Parker, assistant professor of medicine, geriatrics and gerontology.  Not shown:  Dr. Jane Smith, executive director of the Spelman College Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement and Juanita Abernathy, civil rights activist, and matriarch.
