Time Magazine 100 Most Influential Artist, Kara Walker, To Speak At Atlanta Cyclorama

Award-winning contemporary artist Kara Walker will lecture on The Art of War at The Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum Friday, Aug. 10. The event, 6-8 p.m.,  is part of the ongoing Civil War Summer series, “The American Civil War: One-Hundred-Fifty Years Later” hosted by The City of Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Atlanta Cyclorama.Walker is best known for her room-size tableaux of black cut-paper silhouettes. Her work explores race, gender, sexuality and violence. Walker received her BFA from the Atlanta College of Art in 1991. She was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, artist, in 2007, and her work is featured in the July 2012 issue of Harper’s Magazine (Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War).Admission and parking for the event are free. The Art of War is one of the many dialogues scheduled for the Civil War Summer series, which features noted historians, author discussions, performances and exhibits designed to inspire new conversations and better understanding of the war’s influence on modern-day Atlanta.
