For the second time in three years, a person associated with extracurricular activities at Wheeler High School has been charged with stealing money from the organization.

Dawn Brown Martin of Marietta, a leader of the school's band booster club, is accused of stealing $40,117.25 from the Wheeler Wildcat Pride marching band from January through October 2012, according to the AJC.

Martin was serving as vice president of the organization's Bingo activities until it was discovered that she was taking money fundraisers home and making monthly deposits before depositing the remainder of the money in the band's bank account.

Bingo for the Wildcat Pride band was one of the organization's biggest fundraisers. Money raised was generally used to help reduce the cost of band member fees.

Martin turned herself in Friday morning into the Cobb County Jail and is currently being held on $55,220 bond, she faces a felony charge of theft-by-taking.

In 2010, Patti Hicks Rose, the treasurer of the Wheeler cheerleaders, was charged with theft by conversion when she was accused of stealing more than $27,000, which was equal to the group's annual operating costs.
