    Heating Assistance Available for Chicagoans

      SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Enrollment for winter heating assistance has begun at the 35 local agencies that administer the program throughout Illinois.

      The agencies are beginning to process applications on a first come, first served basis. Priority enrollment for seniors, the disabled and families with children under age 5 began earlier this year.

        NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Hiring was surprisingly strong in October, while the unemployment rate ticked higher, according to a report released just four days before the presidential election.

        The economy added 171,000 jobs in October, and unemployment ticked up to 7.9%, from 7.8% in September, the Labor Department said Friday.
