The shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. Thursday near the 6700 block of South Indiana Avenue, according to Patrick Camden, a spokesman for the Chicago police union. Officers were driving south on Indiana near an alley when they spotted the boy coming out of the alley with a gun in his hand, Camden said.
The officers pulled over and ordered the boy to drop the gun but he began running, Camden said. About midway down the alley, the boy turned and pointed the gun at the officers, Camden said. The officers fired and fatally striking him, Camden said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office hasn't identified the boy, but police sources said he was a gang member with an arrest history that includes robbery and aggravated battery to a police officer.
No officers were injured.
