Don’t forget to pray when you’re fighting cancer

Don’t take your own life by not tending to your body’s needs. It wouldn’t hurt if you have a talk with God, either.
 Dr. Timothy

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) has come and gone. Although the month-long spotlight focused intensely on cancer awareness, prevention and a cure, it is still an undisputed fact that tens of thousands will continue to suffer and eventually die if this dreaded disease isn’t arrested or eradicated altogether.

Was there something to glean from the litany of information about cancer? I would say yes, unequivocally: Fortify your body with a cancer-fighting diet such as leafy green vegetables, make an effort to exercise daily, and make a complete lifestyle change.

The human body is a strange vessel. One moment you’re feeling fine and the next moment you’re dealing with some kind of health issue that seems to arise overnight. Question: Did your problem appear out of thin air or was it noticeable and you just didn’t pay any attention to the sore, itch, pain, ache or dizziness? Knowledge is power. But if you don’t use it, you’ll succumb to the inevitability of death.

Don’t play Russian roulette with your health. Don’t take your own life by not tending to your body’s needs. It wouldn’t hurt if you have a talk with God, either. You’d need faith to help you conquer cancer and heal your body. But it depends on your belief in a higher being.

If we are sick or stricken with a disease, we pity ourselves and hope for a cure. We tend to believe that death is inevitable. It is – but don’t rush it. Is cancer a test from God to increase our belief that healing is possible with divine intervention? I’m not sure, but I do know that you must have faith – even if it’s the size of a mustard seed – to speed up the healing process and eventually conquer cancer.

While faith in a higher being is important, the food we choose to eat is just as important if we want to live or die. Don’t be persuaded by others who don’t know diddly-squat about cancer and what it takes to eradicate it. It takes food – the right kind of course – and faith.

As a plant-based chef and wellness coach, I’m amazed when I discover that some of my clients still seek someone else’s opinion about nutrition and wellness when it is evident that they’re on the mend. If your friend doesn’t like something, for example, it doesn’t mean it’s not good for you.

While I’m not a preacher, I do know your destiny is in God’s hands – not man. You can live to be 30, 60, 90 or longer if God ordains it. And that’s the gospel truth. If your faith is as strong as you say it is, then why do you doubt God and his healing powers?

We can also heal one another. For example, if you have a close friend who has a life-threatening illness, you can pray with your friend and help him/her live a good quality life. Sometimes gluttony causes ill health. The environment, stress and toxins are also culprits.

If you want God to heal your body from a debilitating illness, you have to believe that He will do it. But then you have to do your part. Eat the right kinds of food to help expedite the healing process. Remember – and I’ve said it numerous times – you have to eat to live, not live to eat. Here’s the key to life: eat more vegetables, exercise daily, change your lifestyle, and pray.

Here’s the last stanza of a poem to consider by the poet Dale Wimbrow (1895-1954). The poem was first published in 1934 and titled “The Guy in the Glass”:

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years

And get pats on the back as you pass

But your final reward will be the heartaches and tears

If you’ve cheated the man in the glass.

Stop cheating yourself and begin today believing that you can overcome cancer and other dreaded diseases regardless of what others might say. Remember to eat your vegetables, get plenty of rest, don’t let anything or anyone stress you out and learn to relax.

And don’t forget to pray!
