MATA hearings to probe service scenarios

Memphis Area Transit Authority will hold four public meetings – Nov. 7-10 – to present several potential service scenarios designed to improve and enhance transportation services.  Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) will hold four public meetings – Nov. 7-10 – to present several potential service scenarios designed to improve and enhance transportation services. Citizens are invited to provide feedback.

The meetings are a part of the MATA Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP) study that has been underway since January 2011. The SRTP study is to ensure that MATA is operating cost-effectively and efficiently, is an attractive transportation option, and meets the needs of the community it serves. Preliminary recommended service changes include operations and route changes.

“In-depth data analysis and public input have been two key components during this study. Our study team has taken that information and compiled some changes we believe will help MATA be of better service to those who currently use our services, as well as attract others who may not,” said Alison Burton, director of Marketing and Customer Service for MATA.

“We appreciate those who have taken the time to share their open and honest opinions with us. We need them, along with others, to continue to assist us as we near the completion of this study. This is our opportunity to transform public transportation in this city.”

The meetings will be held at the following locations: Nov. 7, New Direction Christian Church, 6120 Winchester Road, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Nov. 8, Impact Baptist Church, 3759 N. Watkins Street, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Nov. 9, Whitehaven Library, 4120 Millbranch Rd., 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Nov. 10, Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Avenue, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The MATA STRP is being been conducted by a team of consultants:  Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates, Kimley-Horn and Associates and TRUST Marketing, Inc.
