Rhodes College to mark 9/11 with bells, music and community service

Rhodes College will commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Rhodes College will commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11, which falls on a Sunday this year, with the following events:

9 a.m. – Halliburton Bells on the Rhodes campus will toll in memory of those who died in each of the four attacks on Sept. 11, 2011.

10 a.m.-3 p.m. – Service Project: “Artistic Board Up,” on Kney Street in North Memphis. Rhodes students will coordinate volunteers and help clean lots and paint boards with interior scenes for at least 10 abandoned homes on Kney Street. The event is the kickoff for the White House Interfaith Service Challenge that brings people from different religious backgrounds together through community service.

4 p.m. – Service of Prayer and Memorial at Idlewild Presbyterian Church. The music will be performed under the direction of Rhodes Music Chair William Skoog and includes the Rhodes Singers.

8 p.m. – Candlelight Commemoration. A labyrinth in light will be created on the campus lawn located south of Buckman Hall for reflection on the events of 9/11 and the many ways they have changed our world.
