Short news items from around the community MCS Career & College Expo

Business and community leaders will come together in a to help connect Memphis City Schools students to future careers, colleges and more by participating in the 2011 MCS Career & College Expo at the Cook Convention Center.

It begins with a special community reception and kick-off on Monday, Feb. 28th from 4 – 6 p.m. On Tuesday, March 1 and Wednesday, March 2, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. each day, more than 6,000 students will come to the Cook Convention Center to develop career-readiness skills, explore employment options and discuss post-secondary educational opportunities.

Students will also have the opportunity to network with businesses, universities and community organizations both days. This is the third annual Career and College Expo.

March 1 fair on graduate school choices at U of M

Are you thinking about obtaining a doctorate, a master’s degree or a graduate certificate? If so, you’re invited to attend the University of Memphis Graduate and Professional Schools’ Recruitment Fair on Tuesday, March 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Rose Theatre on campus.

The fair will offer information about the U of M’s 24 doctoral degrees, 55 master’s degrees, 19 graduate certificates, the education specialist degree, and the juris doctor (law) degree. Prospective students can also meet and talk with graduate faculty and students, learn about financial aid and scholarship/fellowship programs, and apply on-site for graduate school at the University of Memphis.

Dr. Ralph Faudree, U of M Provost, the senior academic administrator, will be in attendance.

The event is free and open to the public. Paid parking is available in the Zach Curlin garage, adjacent to the University Center.

U of M Law School diversity outreach

The Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis will host a Diversity Outreach Program on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bluff Room (Room 304) of the University Center on the main U of M campus.

The program will provide college undergraduates with information about the law school admissions process, financial aid and scholarships, the law school’s diversity access program, and more.

Yolanda Ingram, Law School dean for student affairs, and Sue Ann McClellan, assistant dean for law admissions, will be on hand to answer questions. A panel of current students will discuss what life in law school is really like.

The event is free, and lunch is included. Parking is available in the Zach Curlin garage, adjacent to the University Center.

UTHSC to host open house on Allied Health

Get prepared for a career in allied health by attending an open house on Friday (Feb. 18) at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Allied Health Sciences.

 From physical therapy to health information management, the college offers a wide range of programs to prepare for an allied health career. The free open house will be held at 930 Madison Ave., 6th floor, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
