Tiger Basketball wraps up Canadian exhibition tour

The University of Memphis men’s basketball team wrapped up its Canadian exhibition tour on Tuesday (Aug. 19th) after a second loss to the Carleton University Ravens 92-60. The Tigers finished four games in four days splitting the tour 2-2.

After a rigorous 10-round team practice schedule as permitted by NCAA rules, Memphis departed for Canada on Aug. 15 and returned to the bluff city on Wednesday (Aug. 20).

Mo’ne Davis, 13, who plays for Philadelphia’s Taney Dragons youth baseball team, has become the first Little Leaguer to land the national cover of Sports Illustrated, reports SI.com.
 
As previously reported by NewsOne, Davis, who pitches a 70-mph fastball, led her Little League team to the World Series when she struck out six batters during Mid-Atlantic Finals.

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) – More than six decades after Kathryn
"Tubby" Johnston Massar cut off her braids, tucked her hair under her cap and became the first girl to play Little League baseball, she's delighted to see two girls in the Little League World Series.
 
"It's truly amazing. I'm very happy to see girls playing," said Massar, 78, of Yuba City, California.
 
Philadelphia's Mo'ne Davis and Canada's Emma March became the 17th and 18th girls to play in the tournament Friday. It is only the third time in the event's 68-year history that two girls are playing in the same series.

NEW ORLEANS — The previous time Michael Oher played in New Orleans, he was a first-string tackle for the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.
He returns less than two years later on Friday night for a preseason game as a member of his new team, the Tennessee Titans, trying to prove he remains worthy of a starting job in the NFL.
 
After starting every game through his first five NFL seasons — all in Baltimore — Oher, signed a four-year, $20 million free agent deal with Tennessee that brought him back to his home state.
