Defending and on top, so far!

Special to the Tri-State Defender

With last season’s 26-2 record in the rearview mirror, Ridgeway’s Roadrunners are the defending TMSAA Sectional (State) Champion of West Tennessee and currently are undefeated this season at 9-0.

Ridgeway boy’s coach Eric Winfrey said he and the coaching staff aspire for their players to be responsible and to develop strong work habits.

“It is important for our players to lead in the classroom as well as in their respective sport(s),” he said.

Overall, the goal is to prepare the boys for competition at the next level and for life after basketball, he said.

“We use basketball as a tool to reach our student-athletes and teach them that it is one way to get where you want to go in life, but education is the main way. At Ridgeway, our student-athletes are expected to lead in the classroom, first.”

OK, so how are things going on the court?

“The one thing I’m probably most pleased with is the way the boys are playing at this point. They are playing well together and seem to know whom the team leaders are and they understand their roles as players on this team,” said Winfrey.
