The LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians defeated the Fort Valley State Wildcats 71 to 46 in Bruce Hall last Saturday (Dec. 3).
In the first half, the Magicians jumped out on the Wildcats 11-5 around the 15- minute mark. The Magicians controlled the entire half with constant pressure on the ball and trapping defense forcing the Wildcats into 12 turnovers and holding them to only 10-30 (33 percent) shooting from the field.
The Magicians would lead by as much as 10 points in the half but around the 6- minute mark the Wildcats went on a run cutting the lead down to just four points. From there, the Magicians would push the lead back to thirteen points ending the half winning 36-23. Nine LOC players scored two points or more, with Teshawn Byron leading the way with seven and Chris Brown right behind him with six. Every LOC player played in the first half.
In the second half, the Wildcats went on a 13-2 run, cutting the lead down just two points with 15 minutes remaining in the game. The Magicians regrouped after a made layup by Naeem Gayles assisted by Chris Brown and went on a massive 27-4 run of their own, pushing the lead 25 with six minutes left in the game.
During that run, the Magicians forced the Wildcats into 5 turnovers and 16 straight missed shots. The Magicians, who pushed the lead to 29 points with three minutes to go, are a perfect 3-0 on the year.
Calvin Stoudemire lead the team with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks and 3 steals. Chris Brown was the second leading scorer with 11 points and 2 steals.
The Magicians shot 26-61 (43 percent) from the field, 5-14 (36 percent) from the three point line and 14-26 from the (54 percent) from the free throw line.
The Magicians will be back in action Dec. 15 against Miles College in Fairfield, Ala. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
