An Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge will be on-call while the polls are open to resolve more complicated disputes. If need be, voters may always fill out provisional ballots.
“Everyone committed to keeping Pennsylvania voters informed about how they can best protect their voting rights, is still working in the field to get information into the hands of Pennsylvania’s voters,” said voting rights activist Celeste Taylor. “We still have five days until the General Election. While some are content with what they believe is a victory, we know it’s not over until it’s over. We’ve got to continue contacting voters.”
Additionally, the Black Political Empowerment Project and the PA Voter ID Coalition is continuing its election protection training sessions Nov. 1 through Nov. 5, and will conduct online webinar training for those who cannot attend the sessions.
Again, as they have in presidential election years since 2000, the Allegheny County CISP program and the Black Political Empowerment Project have teamed up to provide Roll To The Polls transportation for those who need it in Pittsburgh.
To arrange transportation on with CISP on Election Day, for the Hill District call 412-281-7430; for the North Side or Manchester call 412-442-5790; for East Liberty or Homewood call 412-241-2447, and for Garfield or Bloomfield call 412-363-1150.
For those outside the city in Wilkinsburg or Braddock call 412-243-7550, and in McKeesport call 412-672-6051.
Although the county sends out notices regarding changes to polling places, it is always possible that some voters are unaware that their voting place may have changed since the last presidential race, or the 2010 mid-term election, or even since the May primary.
Just last month, while promoting the renovation of the historic South Side Market House, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced that voting polls would return to the building for this year’s presidential election.
County Elections Bureau Manager Mark Wolosik said that change is the only recent one, noting that recent school district reconfigurations have not resulted in any relocations.
Anyone unsure of their polling place, he noted, can find it by going to the Bureau of Elections Poll Finder page at http://apps.county.allegheny.pa.us/VoteDistricts/ Lookup.aspx.
But even well before Election Day, a number of advocacy groups have scheduled Get Out The Vote events, primarily aimed at mobilizing young voters to support President Obama’s reelection bid.
On Nov. 3 from noon to 4 p.m., a number of entertainers, including The Voice contestant Yolanda Barber will perform at a Rally and Concert at the Hillman Auditorium, 1835 Centre Ave., in the Hill. Some of the sponsors include The New Pittsburgh Courier, B-PEP, the Urban League and A+ Schools.
That same day, beginning at 10 a.m., Pittsburgh Councilman Bill Peduto will be canvassing Bloomfield as part of the Obama For American Get Out The Vote effort.
On Nov. 2, state Rep.-elect Ed Gainey will hold a pre-election rally party featuring food and music at the Kingsley Association, 6435 Frankstown Ave. in East Liberty. Gainey will also join local, county, state and federal Democratic office holders at the James Street Gasatropub at 6 p.m. Nov. 3 for a Rally to support Eugene DePasquale for sate auditor general.
