Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh celebrates 95th Anniversary this weekend

The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh will be celebrating its 95th Anniversary this year and this weekend will mark the start of activities.

Saturday, February 9 there will be a kick off celebration at the Senator John Heinz History Center. The program, hosted by Esther Bush, president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh will feature remarks by Marc Morial, president and CEO of the National Urban League in the Mueller Center (7th Floor). Following the program, guests will be part of the Western Pennsylvania Screening of the movie, Whitney Young: Powerbroker, compliments of WQED Multi Media.

On Sunday, February 10, Rev. Dr. Randall K. Bush, Pastor of East Liberty Presbyterian Church, will host the 28th Annual Urban League Sunday beginning at 4 p.m. at East Liberty Presbyterian Church. Guest keynote speaker is Rev. Dr. E. Dewey Smith, Jr. of Greater Traveler's Rest Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. The East Liberty Presbyterian Church Adult Choir Soloists and the Mount Ararat Baptist Church Male Chorus will provide music. A reception will follow the services.

Honorary Chairs for the weekend festivities are Judy and Ron Davenport, Ann and Leon Haley, Colleen and David O'Brien, and Nancy and Milt Washington.

The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh is focused on serving African-American constituents and other minorities, but no one is ever turned away. Last fiscal year, the affiliate served over 28,000 individuals in Pittsburgh and the surrounding counties. As the largest comprehensive social service/civil rights organization in Southwestern Pennsylvania, the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh provides services in the areas of education, health advocacy, housing, early childhood and youth development, hunger services, employment and career training and counseling, and economic empowerment.
