Atlanta Police report that a 37-year-old man was shot twice at the Allen Temple Apartments on Allen Temple Court just after midnight in northwest Atlanta.

Police Capt. Adam Lee III told 11Alive news that the man stepped outside to smoke when two young men approached and asked for a cigarette. The victim, fearing he was about to be robbed, turned and walked away. That's when he was shot once in the side and once in the thigh. Lee said officers found seven shell casings at the scene.

Lee said the man did not recognize the men who shot him and the motive for the shooting is unclear. The police have not said whether or not the suspects were arrested.

The victim, whose name was not released, is in stable condition at Grady Hospital.
