With only three days left to vote before polls close leading up to Election Day, Fulton County has surpassed 100,000 votes. Though numbers are down from 2008, the early voting period is also much smaller. Surpasses surpases
The Fulton County South Service Center has reported 24,982 votes as of 11:00 a.m. to lead all voting centers in the county. The Service Center is also currently experiencing a wait time of more than an hour. The Adamsville Recreation Center, where 20,368 votes have been cast so far, is reporting only a five minute wait, and the Fulton County Government Center shows a zero minute waiting time to vote.
In the state of Georgia so far, almost 690,000 early ballots have been cast, according to the Secretary of State's Office. That number is well down from 2008, and if current trends hold around 50 percent less people will have voted in early voting during this year's election than in 2008.
More than 2 million voters cast ballots before Election Day 2008, which was a nearly 400 percent increase over the previous presidential election. That massive increase seems to have discouraged legislators who took the early voting timetable down to 21 days this year, from 45 days in 2008.
Fulton County's 105,628 votes make it one of the top vote-getting counties in the state. The other leaders – DeKalb, Gwinnett, Cobb and Henry – are all in or near the Atlanta metro area. Each is tracking more than 60 percent below numbers from 2008.
Four years ago, 53 percent of all votes in the state of Georgia were cast before Election Day, either in person or by mail.
