Domestic violence victimizes hundreds of thousands, even millions of women per year. It is the leading cause of injury to women, far succeeding car accidents, muggings and rapes combined. Sisters Empowerment Network, Inc. (SEN), a Riverdale-based nonprofit, volunteer-based community organization that plays a vital role in addressing violence against women and children, will host the 2nd Annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes: Community Walk Against Domestic Violence on Saturday, October 20, 2012.

Advance registration is $25 for adults 18 and older, $10 for students, and $90 for teams of four. The Walk will be held at the Riverdale Town Center, 7210 Church Street, Riverdale, Georgia, and will begin at 8:00 a.m., and end at 1:00 p.m. Registrants may express their interest in participating individually or as a team.

According to SEN's Founder and CEO Veda Brown, "The Walk presents an opportunity to publicly demonstrate that domestic violence will not be tolerated in our homes, workplaces, schools, and our communities; it shows willingness to stand together to make the world a safer place for all women and children."

The Walk will also help raise awareness of the consequences of domestic violence on women and children. Following the walk, a "Unity in Our Community" domestic violence enlightenment event will take place. It will offer a Resource Center and interactive sessions with information about the causes, effects and remedies of domestic violence.
