(AP) — The Cook County Sheriff's Department is rolling out an anonymous tip application that will allow citizens to use their smartphones and cellphones to send in tips about crimes or suspicious activity in any one of more than 40 languages.
The application, called iWatch Cook County, will allow the department to communicate with the tipster through messages that are instantly translated from English into the language in which the tip was written and translates the department's response from English back to that language.
The application is one component of a new Sheriff's Office Intelligence Center designed to allow law enforcement agencies in more than 120 communities in Cook County to share information gathered from police departments, jails, and courts about individual crimes, crime trends and suspected criminals.
