Hundreds of Chicago women, mothers, teachers, politicians, clergy and concerned neighbors marched Saturday, March 23, 2013 to call for an end to the violence that is claiming Black youth. The march started at 55th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue and ended at 4525 S. King Drive, headquarters of the march organizers, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Chicago Alumnae Chapter.

The 1,000 Women March was inspired by the sorority’s national Centennial Torch Tour, a signature activity that features the lighting of the sorority’s symbolic torch as part of a 22- city tour commemorating Delta Sigma Theta’s centennial celebration. The torch traveled as far away as Japan and Bermuda and arrived in Chicago on the day of the march.
