Dear Reader: Now that’s funny. Thanks for the laugh. I sense that you are not criticizing me, just being true to what you want to know.
So, here it is. Have you ever heard the saying that comes from the Bible, ‘Let the dead bury the dead?” My take on the meaning of that used to be a literal thing like I could stop going to funerals! Well, that didn’’ work out too well.
So what could it mean?
I take it to mean that we live in the “NOW.” The only time that I have is now. My commitment is to bring joy to every moment! I want to be fully ALIVE. I want folk to leave my presence joy-filled and with a sense that they are somehow better for having spent some of their “now” with me. I don’t always succeed. Like today I went to the dentist and when I got ready to check out, the cashier said I looked like I was mad. Admittedly, I was a little disappointed because we didn’t finish some expected work, but when she said that, I quickly adjusted my attitude. (And that was hard to do with a wop-sided mouth)
Here is the rest of my answer to you. People are generally looking for a way to have a bigger, better, fuller expression of life. Even the ones who do us wrong! The world is not in need of more fault-finding, condemnation or judgment. I am practicing on the art of forgiving quickly and completely. That means I don’t dwell on the past, pick it apart, rehearse my “I’m pissed off” speech, or take baggage of the past into my future. I look for the lesson, find the blessing, own my own “stuff” and fall back into joy. Most of all, I try to avoid picking myself apart and criticizing ME.
None of this is all that easy because it requires conscious activity on my part. I have to practice, practice, practice. And since we are all great works in progress, I get lots of opportunities to practice.
Live in the overflow of your own joy!
