In January, Cain announced he had formed an exploratory committee for a potential presidential campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, and last Saturday (May 21) he officially announced his candidacy in Atlanta.
Cain is a former deputy chairman (1992–94) and chairman (1995–96) of the civilian board of directors to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Before his business and economics career, he worked on ballistics for the United States Navy.
Cain has a newspaper column that is distributed by North Star Writers Group.
Married to Gloria Cain, the couple has two children. He has a bachelor’s degree from Morehous College and a master’s degree from Purdue University.
He lists his religion as Christian, specifically Southern Baptist.
