Webster will be among 40 college students who in May will travel with civil rights activists to retrace and reflect upon the Freedom Rides. Their journey will honor the more than 400 black and white college students who risked their lives by simply traveling together through the “Deep South.”
Facing History is an educational partner for the PBS American Experience film, “Freedom Riders,” which tells the harrowing, but inspirational story. Facing History’s study guide and resource-rich Web site to accompany the film are located at facinghistory.org/freedomriders.
Facing History and Ourselves is an international educational and professional development organization whose mission is to engage students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and anti-semitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry. The Memphis office of Facing History currently touches about 190,000 students in portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee.
