The Second Annual Elliot Perry SOCKS (Supporting Our Community and KidS) Banquet will be held Friday, July 21 at the Holiday Inn, University of Memphis campus, 3700 Central Ave. The event, which is being presented by Nike in benefit of Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center, will get underway at 7 p.m.
Keynote speaker will be former NBA player and current TNT analyst Charles Barkley.
Perry graduated from Treadwell High School, and played four seasons with the Memphis Tigers. A key player, he was drafted in the second round of the 1991 NBA Draft (37th overall) by the Los Angeles Clippers. His professional basketball career included stints with the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns, New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Memphis Grizzlies.
Last year’s event raised $40,000 for Memphis-area agencies that serve families and young people. The idea for the SOCKS Banquet came about last year as a way to give back to the community that Perry calls home.
Event contributing sponsors are FedEx and International Paper.
