Dr. Jeremiah Wright will be the keynote speaker on Sunday (Dec. 16) as Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church says goodbye to Senior Pastor Dr. Frank A. Thomas.
The Black Tie Soiree will occur at the Hilton Hotel located at 939 Ridge Lake Blvd., beginning at 4 p.m.
Wright was a mentor to Thomas, who will be leaving the church on Dec. 31 after nearly 15 years of pastoring. The event will be one of the final opportunities for Thomas' congregation and the greater Memphis community to wish him well in his pastoral retirement.
In 2013, Dr. Thomas will be joining his wife, Dr. Joyce Thomas, at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Ind. as a tenured professor of homiletics. He also will serve as the director of a new preaching institute focused on the rich history and culture of the African American Church.
After announcing his retirement this summer, Dr. Thomas stayed to help the church coordinate his transition, the acquiring of an interim pastor and the recruitment of a candidate for the senior pastor position.
Pastor Denise Bell, who will soon complete her doctoral studies, has taken the task of leading the church through the transition as the newly announced interim pastor. She is now helping the church complete its pastoral search process, which is currently considering the Rev. Jason Lawrence Turner, a Yale alum who pastors a church in Connecticut.
