Glamour in the slammer, guitar blues and destiny

Why do so many celebrities seem to think it is OK to go to jail? Well, let me rephrase that. Why does it seem that celebrities think it’s OK to do the things that would land one in jail?

Why do so many celebrities seem to think it is OK to go to jail? Well, let me rephrase that. Why does it seem that celebrities think it’s OK to do the things that would land one in jail?

This week, two legendary rappers were positioned to see the inside of a jail cell –Antwan “Big Boi” Patton, half of the duo Outkast, and Christopher “Kid” Reid of Kid & Play. You know, the one that formerly sported the high-top fade.

Apparently, Big Boi was exiting a cruise ship and was caught with ecstasy and illegal Viagra. You’re probably asking yourself what makes Viagra illegal. Well, it’s considered illegal when you don’t have a prescription for it. Looks like Big Boi only had to spend a few hours in jail before he was released. For his sake, I hope he was on that cruise with his wife.

As for Kid, he was arrested for an outstanding warrant. No word at press time on what type of warrant. So I’m giving him the benefit of a doubt. Maybe it was for a traffic violation. Who knows? I just hope it wasn’t for anything serious.

The Case of the missing guitar

Did you catch the Soul Food Festival this past weekend?  If not, you missed such acts as Dru Hill, SWV, Angela Winbush and George Clinton & Parliament. Seems like that wasn’t the only thing missing from show. Apparently while the P-Funk Captain and the rest of the gang was performing someone tipped into their tour bus and walked away with one of the band member’s guitars. Owner Shaunna Hall valued the guitar at $5,000. She got on the bus, asked where her guitar was and nobody knew. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the guitar should contact  901-568-5645.

Kelly Rowland

This is turning out to be a great year for Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland. She has a number one single with “Motivation” from her latest hit album, “Here I Am” and we have received word that she will now be starring in a yet-to-be named sitcom on a yet-to-be revealed network that should debut in January of 2012. She can also be seen in Steve Harvey’s upcoming film “Think Like a Man.” And in September, Rowland is kicking off her tour with Chris Brown and T-Pain.

In other news, Rowland is one of two artists to experience wardrobe malfunctions in the past few days. It seems that only days after rapper Nicki Minaj suffered her little mishap on “Good Morning America,” Rowland had one of her own. Do you think these things are planned? They most certainly make news, don’t they?

The Delta Fair

Once you get all rested up from the Universoul Circus later this month, you can get back into the fun with the Delta Fair at the Agricenter Sept. 2-11. It’s always fun to stuff yourself with funnel cakes and lots of other things that really should not be fried, then get on the types of rides that make you wanna lose it all, right? I’m pretty sure this will be the theme of my column the week after I take my kids. Chances are, I’ll see you there.

P.S.

Hey, this weekend there will enough entertainment for everyone as Boyz II Men and Grandmaster Flash stops by Harrah’s Casino on Saturday night. And if you love Blues and Southern Soul, you’ll have a great time at the Tri-State Blues Festival at the Desoto Civic Center on Saturday as well. And while you’re resting up for work on Monday, don’t forget to check out “In the flow with Affion Crockett” this Sunday night on Fox 13. Until then, that’s what’s happening!
