Is ‘Tupac’ alive and living in Memphis?

Tupac Shakur
Whether it was his music, movies or behind the scenes antics, Tupac Shakur was undoubtedly one of pop culture’s most intriguing individuals. And so much so that a film about him seems inevitable.  Tupac Shakur

Although there has never been a movie based on the life of Shakur, there have been a couple of films that have featured an actor playing the role of Shakur. One was “Too Legit to Quit,” which was based on the rise of rapper MC Hammer, and “Notorious,” which was based on the life of rapper Notorious B.I.G.

Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas back in 1996 and it seems like a biopic has been a long time coming. However, it might take a little bit longer because the producers of the film are having the hardest time trying to cast someone to portray the role of Shakur.

There are likely more than enough established actors to play the part, however the producers would like to choose a lesser known actor to play the role. In an attempt to locate the person who can pull this off, they are holding online auditions.

So, if you think you look like, sound like or embody the essence of Tupac, you may register at www.insearchoftupac.com.

Submissions should include applicants reading a scene from the movie and performing a one-minute clip from his favorite Tupac song. Videos should be no longer than five minutes and will be accepted through April 30.

I’m sure we have a local actor here in Memphis who could pull this off.
