On Feb. 16. Memphis native singer and songwriter, Kristopher Oliver, better known as KrisO, will take the stage in New York City on BET’s “106 and Park” for the “Wild Out Wednesday” competition.

KrisO, a former public relations student at Florida Memorial University, returned to Memphis to pursue his music career. Last September, Pat Charles – the writer for “106 & Park,” selected KrisO as one of the contestants for the show, along with Memphis native Porcelan Chalet, who performed on the show in December.

Vote for KrisO on Feb. 16 by texting A to 79922. He will perform his new single “Diggin’ You”. Also, on Feb. 21, you can catch KrisO and Porcelan Chalet performing live at the Hard Rock Café for Memphis Music Monday – an event put on by the Memphis & Shelby County Music Commission.

I had a conversation with KrisO recently and this is what he had to say:

Milton Howery III: Will this be your first time in New York City?

Kristopher Oliver:
Yes, it will be. I’m taking my mom with me, as well as writer and producer of my songs.

MHIII:  Are you nervous about appearing on BET’s “106 and Park?”
KrisO:  I’m not nervous at all. I’m just excited. I can’t wait to be there. It’s a show I’ve been watching for years now (and) to get the opportunity to perform on the show is very exciting.

MHIII: What sets you apart from other artists that have appeared on BET’s “106 and Park Wild Out Wednesday?”

KrisO: To be real with you Milton, the thing that sets me apart honestly speaking is that I can sing. I enjoy singing. I’m trying to bring back real music.

MHIII:  How do you feel about the current music industry in Memphis?

KrisO:  I support Memphis one hundred percent, but I feel like artists in Memphis don’t work together. I feel if we work together Memphis can be on top again as a musical city.

MHIII: What are your hopes for your appearance on BET?

KrisO:  I’m just hoping to get on the show and do my best.  It’s a great opportunity, it’s great exposure. Everyone doesn’t get the chance to go on BET’s “106 and Park.” I’m hoping to get recognized, get people to call me and who knows, maybe a record label will call.

MHIII: What Memphis artist would you like to work with?

KrisO:  There is no one specific, but I’m a fan of the rapper Yo Gotti and would love to work with him.

MHIII: Is there anything you want to tell the world or anything you want to get off your chest?

KrisO: Yes, I just want everyone to watch the show on February 16 and vote by texting A to 79922 so I can come home a winner. Regardless, whether I win or lose, I will return to Memphis continuing to work hard.  Just look out for me.
