Let the games begin!

Do you like game shows? I do. Steve Harvey made history in 2010 when he became the first African-American host of the “Family Feud.” I’m not sure if this opened the door for others, but it seems like many other African Americans are now getting the opportunity. (Maybe there’s hope for me.)

“Let’s Make a Deal” made its debut in 1963 with host Monte Hall who became synonymous with the long-running show. Since 2009, the deals have been called out by by comedian and Emmy Award winning talk show host Wayne Brady.

Remember Alfonso Ribeiro, Carlton from the “Fresh Prince of Bel Air?” Of course you do. Between directing episodes of Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns,” he hosts “Catch-21” on the Game Show Network, a gig he has had since 2008. Ribeiro reads a multiple-choice question and the first contestant to answer correctly earns 100 points and can freeze their hand, preventing them from taking additional cards or reveal the next card from the top of the deck. After revealing the card, the contestant can accept it or pass it to one of their opponents who has not yet frozen.

“The Newlywed Game” was made popular by its original host Bob Eubanks back in 1966. Sherri Sheppard, co-host of ABC’s “The View,” entered the game show world by taking over hosting duties of the show in November. Sheppard, who had a short run as the star of “Sherri” on the Lifetime channel, is also trying her hand at a new untitled sitcom for TV Land.

Even celebrity gossip queen Wendy Williams has entered the game show world. You can catch her in syndication daily on “The Wendy Williams Show” and beginning April 18, you will be able to catch her on the Game Show Network as host of “The Love Triangle.” On this new dating show Wendy will dole out her best relationship advice and matchmaking skills as singles battle to win a relationship with that special someone.
