Genghis Grill officially opened its second location in Memphis on Saturday (May 21) with a ribbon-cutting event that included handing over a $10,000 check to the winner of a national weight loss contest.
Genghis Grill, headquartered in Dallas, has restaurants in more than 19 states and has added close to 140 jobs to the Mid-South. The wait staff at the new location at 5849 Poplar was ready to serve at the grand opening on Saturday. (Photos by Tyrone P. Easley)
The new location is 5849 Poplar Ave. and now Memphians have another place to go to build their own bowl of over 70 fresh healthy ingredients.
“The Mid-South has been good to me,” said Fayaz Abdul, the operating partner for Genghis Grill in Memphis and Murfreesboro. “Our restaurants provide healthy food and our clients love the product.”
As part of the grand opening, a $10,000 prize was awarded to Brandon Sanders of Murfreesboro. Sanders participated in the Health Kwest contest that launched in February of this year. It was a 90-day weight loss contest that customers signed up to participate in. The contest consisted of most percentage of weight loss, most Facebook fan votes and Twitter votes.
Sanders said it was a lot of hard work, adding that Genghis Grill food made it easier to lose the weight.
“The first month I lost 30 pounds,” said Sanders. “I have lost a total of 60 pounds and it was from eating healthy at Genghis and a great deal of exercise.” The 27 year old exercised in the last few months two hours a day and he surpassed all the weight loss goals.
Cordova resident Ryan Sidhom was the runner-up in the Health Kwest contest and was in attendance.
