A Suicide and the Black Church Luncheon is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 4, at noon in The Healing Center Word Counseling Center, 3910 Tchulahoma Road.
Group reservations for church and community groups can be made at The Healing Center, (901) 370-5717.
“We are asking each church to represent their congregation with 5-10 members,” said Bishop William M. Young. “We are also seeking the support of hospitals, mental health providers, schools, and local businesses.
“Young people as well as the old are resorting to taking their lives because of undiagnosed depression and a feeling of hopelessness,” he said. “But pastors and other leaders must get involved with this issue because the senseless loss of life must stop.”
Bishop Young, senior pastor at The Healing Center, along with wife, Evangelist Dianne P. Young, has hosted three annual prior suicide events, bringing attention to the issue of suicide and the phenomenal statistics rising among African-American youth.
