Special to the Tri-State Defender
(A first semester of college update from Former TSD iTeen reporter Brittany Jackson, a graduate of Middle College High School.)
I know that you guys have been missing me, so I decided to drop in and bring you up to date on how everything is going with me and school.
My first semester at Christian Brothers University was an eye-opener –meeting new people and forming friendships, drama with my roommates, dealing with trying to manage a job and the tons of assignments from classes. I’ve learned a lot already, such as better time management skills.
One thing I do need to work on, however, is better study habits. People were not lying when they said that college is a completely different playing field than high school.
I love college and all the freedom. I’m feeling more of a sense of responsibility for my actions and the decisions I make. Everything is on me. I do not have my mom waking me up in the morning making sure I get up and go to class, or making sure I have done all my assignments and studied for my exams.
I am happy to report that I did what I needed to do as far as doing my work, going to class on time, and preparing for exams. Of course, there is plenty of room for improvement and that is just what I plan on doing this upcoming semester. My grades weren’t as good as I know they can be, but trust me when I say that this upcoming semester, they will be on point.
I have some New Year resolutions, including staying true to myself and becoming a better student and person. I plan on keeping them and I hope you keep yours as well. So much can happen over a period of a year and before you know it 2012 will be here!
I’ll check back with you. Until then, stay focused.
