Dr. Lynn Bobo made her way to the Cannon Center on Saturday (Oct. 5) in full expectation of getting a good return on her investment of time and energy. The draw was the concert featuring Boney James and Raheem DeVaughn.

And, wow! Bobo came out a winner, even making her way into the spotlight.

Bobo's golden moment came as the three-time Grammy Award nominee Boney James singled Bobo out for a special serenade.

A black film renaissance? Or, a step backward?

A black film renaissance? Or, a step backward?

Huffington Post Entertainment Editor Kia Makarechi is absolutely right to title his well-intentioned piece "Hollywood's 'Race Problem' Is Worse Than You Think."

In it, Makarechi discusses the stark reality behind the possibility that Chiwetal Ejiofor ("12 Years a Slave"), Idris Elba ("Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom"), Michael B. Jordan ("Fruitvale Station") and Forest Whitaker ("Lee Daniel's 'The Butler'") could all be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.

While it is certainly good news that Ejiofor, Elba, Jordan and Whitaker are indeed on the tongues of Hollywood's top critics for nominations, it is, according to Makarechi, bittersweet. For Makarechi, the roles for which these men are garnering praise are ones that "have to be played by black actors" and that, for Makarechi, indicates no true progression in Hollywood.

New mom Halle Berry lands CBS show

Halle Berry is the latest film star to make a move for the small screen.

The 47-year-old Oscar winner will lead a new CBS serialized drama called "Extant" from Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television.

"There's only one Halle Berry and we are incredibly honored that she has chosen 'Extant' to expand her illustrious career," Spielberg said in a statement. "As she does with everything she touches, she will bring a deep authenticity

Models – including various Memphis notables – styled in wraps from The Fur Vault at Macy's during the 2013 Fall Fur Fashions for Women of Distinction red-carpet event last Sunday (Sept. 29).

The invitation-only affair was held at the Macy's Oak Court store on Poplar Ave.

Approximately 300 women from the Mid-South area previewed the new line-up of 2014 fur coats from around the globe.

"Runner, Runner" (R for profanity and sexuality) Crime drama about a Princeton grad student (Justin Timberlake) who travels to Costa Rica to confront the owner of an online poker website (Ben Affleck) after being cheated out of his tuition money, only to become the corrupt mobster's right hand man. Support cast includes Gemma Arterton, Anthony Mackie and Michael Asper.

TaKeOver for five hours of fun

WHAT'S HAPPENING MYRON The TaKeOver returns Saturday (Oct. 5th) at the Prohibition Lounge at 94 South Front Street in Downtown Memphis. It starts at 2 p.m. and continues through 7 p.m. If you haven't been to one of these, you're missing out on five hours of fun.
