|The Mighty Men of Brown male chorus will perform at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Brown Missionary Baptist Church Saturday, May 7.|
Bringing together gospel musicians from around the Mid-South and noted larger-scale gospel recording artists, such as Shea Norman and John ‘Bob’ Holloway of The Southern Sons, MMOB promises that CD release concert will be truly unforgettable. Song styles range from traditional to contemporary and old-style quartet.
Carl Crawford is Minister of Music for BMBC. In assembling the MMOB male chorale, Crawford has merged an eclectic group of men dedicated to spreading “the Good News of Jesus” through deft musical and vocal talents. An important goal of the group’s debut recording is to bring its spirited sound to a broader range of gospel enthusiasts beyond the walls of BMBC. The group believes its progressive and powerful sound could potentially force music fans to rethink the range and appeal of male choral music in general.
“Going into this recording, we knew we wanted to push a project that would accommodate male choruses specifically,” Crawford said.
“So often, male choruses are limited to quartet music. Since the gospel music industry is not flooded with artists who produce this type of music, we wanted to try to fill this void.”
MMOB has been together for more than 10 years. The men achieved their highest levels of public notoriety in 2007 and 2008 as back-to-back national finalists in the Verizon Wireless “How Sweet the Sound” choir competition. Today, MMOB is a highly sought-after headline act for numerous local events.
Anchoring their support is the Brown Missionary Baptist Church congregation and the Rev. Bartholomew Orr, senior pastor.
